Who qualifies to participate as a Path Maker? The Path is a project by and for working potters, tile makers and clay artists around the world who are anything from proficient to highly-skilled workers in clay. They are not beginners or learners of their craft, but can make tiles which meet the very strict and stringent technical specifications as a matter of course, even if tile making is not usually their main occupation.
Each tile is part of a whole which is designed to withstand heavy wear for a very long time - maybe even hundreds of years.
Commercial, corporate, manufactured and promotional tiles or tiles which do not meet the specifications are unacceptable. That includes Raku or low-fired clay, or tiles which would be hazardous or not sturdy enough.
It is understandably inappropriate to submit tiles made by children and other unqualified makers. We do, however, urge teachers and group leaders to encourage students of all ages to undertake a similar project for the good of their own community.
A personal message to participating Potters, Ceramic Artists and Tile Makers... Eckhard and I really enjoy meeting Path Makers, so if you visit North Wales, please call and introduce yourself to us. We always have time for a chat and a cup of tea! We will enjoy making your acquaintance. and hearing all about you and your work... And as each tile represents well over a million people living on our planet Earth, we really look forward to you becoming a "one-in-a-million potter" by including you and your work in The International Potters' Path.
And finally… We do not receive any public aid or sponsorship and never have. We paid a very high price creating The Chapel of Art--both physically, mentally and economically and we are funding this project out of our own pockets too. This is why we depend on the generosity of each Path Maker. Please support us if you can and pass this information on to all the potters you know at home and abroad. As you can imagine, we need all the help you can give to complete this unique project.
Thank you so much for your support! Happy tile making!
Warm wishes Janet Kaiser - a non-practising artist and potter, who shares certain similarities with good old Bertha, although certainly not as athletic...
