suggested routes

Please note these are only suggestions...
"Your mileage may vary", as they say!

Since setting out these routes, GPS has become commonplace and internet sites have improved a great deal. Try out the AA Route Planner and others on the links page.

Train Route 1 from The Midlands or South of England:
LONDON Euston* > Birmingham/Wolverhampton > Shrewsbury > Machynlleth > CRICCIETH

Note *Euston traditionally is the terminus for trains to North Wales, but you should check when booking a ticket. London has several other train stations, such as Paddington, Victoria and Waterloo as well. Each serves a different part of the country so you may need to take the London Underground (The Tube), a bus or a taxi to a quite different station if you arrive in London from a different part of Britain or from one of the three main London airports: Heathrow, Stanstead and Luton. Allow yourself plenty of time to do this, because London traffic is grim both above and below ground!

Train + Bus Route 2 from The North or The South:

LONDON Euston* > Birmingham > Crewe / Chester > Llandudno Junction > BANGOR

or

MANCHESTER > Manchester Airport > Chester > Llandudno Junction > BANGOR

then from BANGOR by bus (via Caernarfon) to CRICCIETH

Train + Bus Route 3 From The North Wales Coast:
Train via LLANDUDNO JUNCTION > Betws-y-Coed > BLAENAU FFESTINIOG.

Then option A, B or C  from Blaenau Ffestiniog:

A. take the Pwllheli bus (via Porthmadog) directly to Criccieth (= quickest)
B. the narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway (scenic route = seasonal service) to Porthmadog and then take the Pwllheli bus to Criccieth
C. the Ffestiniog Railway to Minfordd and change to the Cambrian Coast railway
