David Pritchard : Thrown Domestic Stoneware

Thrown domestic stoneware

David Pritchard
BA (Hons) Potter

Permanent exhibitor 1996-2002
The Chapel of Art, Criccieth, Wales, UK

Artist's Profile:
David Pritchard was born in "The Valleys" of South Wales, UK then moved to Prestatyn, North Wales with his family, aged ten. David soon found he liked working in clay, acquiring many of the potter's skills with ease. This was partly due to the influence of his father, an Art & Craft teacher and also a talented potter.

David studied art and ceramic design at Loughborough University where he gained his BA, before working at Crich Pottery as a production thrower.

David Pritchard then went to assist in extending a studio pottery on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, where he helped to design and build two large wood-fired kilns, as well as designing and producing ash and salt glazed work for sale in the adjoining gallery.

Returning to Wales with his young family, David Pritchard set up his own workshop for the first time. Drawing on his wide studio and workshop experience, he has developed the designs and glazes which he now uses. Primarily using wood ash, but latterly depending on careful firing and the effects of selected oxides in a controlled reduction atmosphere of his gas kiln.

A Member of the North Wales Potters Association, David Pritchard was valued for his work and contribution, until he closed his workshop studio in 2001.

A small number of David Pritchard's larger vases and pots are still available from The Chapel of Collection.
